What additional services are offered?
At FDM, we have full Grooming facilities, for dogs and cats, therefore we are proud to offer the opportunity for your dog to have a full groom whilst it is booked in to our Retreat. This will be through our Student Groom facility. Please note that Student Grooms are not every day. If you would like to pair your dogs visit with a groom, please contact retreat@fdmretreatandacademy.co.uk.
What does a day to day look like at day care?
Dogs typically arrive between 8am – 9.30am. When you drop your dog off, we will do a brief health check on your dog.
In the mornings, we focus on enrichment, such as licki mats, mentally enriching games and agility.
For exercise, we may take your pup in our dog safe vehicle to a local park, for off lead time in our 2 acre secure field or for a walk around the local areas. Occasionally, we will take your dog on visits to the local town, or even to a pet shop where they can pick out their favourite toy!
After exercise, we will begin feeding (as needed). In the afternoon we encourage dogs to rest and have some 121 with our staff. This could be a gentle groom or some lap time cuddles.
Dogs are collected anywhere between 3pm-6pm. On collection you will be updated on your dogs day and a daily report card will be emailed to you.
Dogs have continual access to our private garden and an array of toys. Dogs are not forced to partake in any activity they do not want to and activities will be adapted depending on dogs enjoyment/age/health status. Water is available the whole time and there is a minimum of 1 water bowl for each dog. Dogs are constantly supervised by qualified and trained staff.
Can I bring my pet in for a groom without visiting the Retreat?
We welcome you to book in for a dog or cat Student Groom. Please see our Student Groom page for more information.
How do you ensure my dog is safe at the Retreat?
Safety of your dog is our number one priority at our Retreat. We are aiming to receive the highest possible rating for Animal Welfare from Huntingdonshire District Council, please be reassured that we have the correct procedures in place to ensure the highest level of care for your dog.
We undergo a screening process for each dog that would like to visit. This includes a questionnaire and behavioural assessment with our resident dogs. We have safe guarding in place to ensure that each dog has the option to take some time for themselves, if they wish to be away from other dogs or humans.
Our Retreat is fully secured and not open to the public. Our transport to and from our 2 acre field is fully secured with car restraints for each dog.
All staff are fully qualified in Level 3 Canine First Aid, as well as additional canine related qualifications. We are also qualified Teachers within the pet industry, and as such, we are dedicated to ensuring our knowledge is up to date.
